Imam al-Dhahabi said in his ‘al-Siyar’ (2/135-201):
.
It is related from Aishah (Allah be pleased with her) that she killed a jinn, she saw in a dream that: By Allah you have killed a Muslim.
She said: If he was Muslim he would not have entered upon the wives of the Prophet, Allah bless him and give him peace.
It was said: Did he not enter except when you were veiled
She awoke disturbed, and ordered that 12,000 dirhams be given as charity.

And from Aishah bint Talhah said: A jinn would visit Aishah, she warned him a number of times, but he refused and kept on appearing, so she attacked him with a knife, and killed him.
She saw a dream and in which it was said to her: You killed so and so? and he witnessed Badr, and he would not come visit you whilst you were unveiled, except that he would listen to the hadith of the Messenger of Allah, Allah bless him and give him peace. And he received it (the hadith) comprehensively. She mentioned this to her father who said: give 12,000 as charity as his blood money (diyyah).

Imam al-Dhahabi commented on it saying:
.
The chain of narration of the first is more authentic, and I do not know of anyone today who holds the view of blood money being compulsory for the likes of this.
